You get what you pay for

By Mary Taylor

At Taylor Rentals we have found this saying to be true this month. We had been approached to manage a particular property two years ago, but the owner decided to seek the services of a small home-based property management company, which offered a very low commission rate which we could not match.

Good work ain’t cheap, cheap work ain’t good

Now the property is back in the very capable hands of Ms Adela Hu. After taking over the management of this delightful executive home in the Eastern suburbs, a makeover was required to get this house back up to standard for a new tenant.

The property had not been inspected, it was dirty, neglected and the grounds were overgrown. We even had to hand in some knuckledusters to the local police station, found during the thorough “cleansing” for meth required before it could be relet.

The house is now restored to its former glory with great tenants and a considerable rent increase, overseen by Adela’s iron fist!

The lesson here is there will always be someone who says that they can do it cheaper. However, if you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur.
